About the Project
The HumanKIND project spreads a message of acceptance and compassion through limited-run merchandise. Profits are either donated to world-bettering causes or used to expand the merch line and grow the project. Over $1,000 has been donated to organizations such as the National Compassion Fund, Me Too Movement, and Families Belong Together.
Project Origin
HumanKIND began as a collaboration between myself and Real Thread, who reached out with interest in fundraising for a charitable cause. The idea was such that I would create a shirt design and Real Thread would take care of the printing, sales, and shipping, with proceeds going to a charity of my choice.
Right around that time, there had been multiple mass shooting events, and the victims and their families were on my mind. I decided that the National Compassion Fund would be a great beneficiary for the fundraiser, and we were able to raise and donate over $500 to the families of mass shooting victims.
The response to the fundraiser was greater than I could have expected, and I decided to continue the project on my own.
Story / Inspiration
While trying to brainstorm ideas about what phrasing properly conveyed the message I wanted to communicate, I ran the ideas past my wife. None of them really worked; we tossed a few more ideas around, and the discussion went silent. Suddenly, she says, "what about 'human kind'??" And it was just perfect. We also collectively agreed that pink was a perfect color for the shirt, representing compassion.
